I can't believe that August is almost over! Our first few weeks in art have been spent getting organized and getting a few projects underway. Ms. Delilah and I plan to bring back our theme from a few years back called 'Hills & Hollers' so our theme in art this year will revolve around life in the upper Cumberland region. If anyone has any good ideas that they would like to contribute please feel free to e-mail me. One project that 6th grade will be working on is painted quilt blocks like the ones that you see on barns. We got this idea from a project in east Tennessee where they have a tour route of barns in the area that have these quilt blocks painted on them. Coming up soon will be a celebration of grandparents in time for Grandparents Day! I'm hoping to have several students enter the art contest honoring Sgt. Alvin C. York. The deadline is September 30th and there are some really nice prizes involved.
I want to thank teaching assistant Sondra J. today for taking 5th grade's United States map off the wall for me. I've been blessed with helpful people this week.
I just wanted to say a special thank you to a couple of very sweet 8th grade girls who were kind enough to take down all my spring art show pictures without even being asked! Thank You Lily B. and Kim M. You have no idea how much you helped!
I thought EVERYONE did a super job in this program! Even Ms. Patty and Ms. Pauletta (although I thought they were going to work me to death on props!) Especially notable were the performances of Samantha (the witch), Gavin (the tin man) and Brett D. really impressed me with his acting ability! Great job everyone!
As I posted earlier, we are studying an artist every month and this month's artist is Georgia O'Keeffe. Well I knew my older students could appreciate and understand her artwork but I really didn't know what to expect from my first graders. So I was pleasantly surprised by the two works I discovered in the posts below!
This month our focus will be on artist Georgia O'Keeffe, an artist who lived in New Mexico. Some of her favorite subjects were bones from the desert and close ups of flowers.
Hi, my name is Miz Patti and I've been teaching art at Pickett County K-8 for about 13 years. I really enjoy my job because I have so many enthusiastic students who keep me on my toes! There's never a dull moment! You can e-mail me at pzachary@k12tn.net.
